Grand Opening by Ian Hislop

The Hartley House renovations were officially opened on 29 November 2013 by Mr Ian Hislop, editor of Private Eye and star of the TV program, Have I Got News For You.  In a ceremony attended by relatives, friends and staff  Mr Hislop cut the ribbon held by two residents, Michael and Phyllis, and then spent time talking to other residents and walking through the home.

Ian was welcome by the owners, Stephen and Julia Gilmour, in a speech which praised the efforts of the staff  in coping with the changing needs of residents,  many of whom have dementia. A copy of the speech can be read here.

The evening was a great success and most of the residents enjoyed a glass of sherry and canapes. Mr Hislop spent time talking to residents, many of whom have dementia. He enjoyed a good laugh and left a lasting impression.
