Hartley House offers a unique dining experience – there are four wings each with its own kitchenette where meals are served. The meals are prepared by our cooks in the central kitchen and then delivered to the wings to be personally served by our staff. Residents sometimes help with setting tables, serving or tidying up. There is a homely atmosphere in each wing and the service is personalized.

We believe that meals form a vital part of the residents’ lives. Each meal is carefully planned and any special needs are noted. Residents are given a choice at all meals, but are free to change their minds if there are other choices available. Menus are rotated on a three weekly basis to ensure maximum choice for residents.

Residents are always welcome to have juice or something to eat during the course of the day.  Special care is taken of residents who are ill or who appear to be losing weight. All residents are weighed regularly and any weight loss carefully monitored and managed.  Resident food choices are carefully recorded and individual meals delivered as necessary.

We encourage all residents to eat in the dining rooms, but some may choose to eat in their rooms or the lounge and this wish is respected. Mealtimes are always lively and are a time to socialize. Medications are also administered around mealtimes and the staff get the opportunity to assess the residents in a social setting.

Meal times are :

  • Lunch 13:30pm – 2:00pm
  • Afternoon tea 3:30pm
